After being postponed for a year, the Ryder Cup is underway at the Whistling Straights Golf Course. Texas have two former players competing for the United States this year in Jordan Speith and Scottie Scheffler.

Speith were the first group to play, teaming up with good friend Justin Thomas. Facing John Rahm and Sergio Garcia, the two Spaniards led by two with two holes to play.

Wins on holes 17 and 18 were needed just to get a half point. The first was a short Par 3.

After Thomas’ first shot landed in a less than ideal location, Spieth faced an impossible chip. Landing him anywhere near the green seemed unlikely. Even crossing the ridge was going to be a difficult question.

Somehow, Spieth was able to stick it on the green and give Thomas a chance to extend the game. He almost fell into the lake too.

Spieth and Thomas ended up losing the game, but the United States are currently leading 3-1 after the Friday morning sessions. On Saturday there will be more fourballs / foursomes, followed by singles matches on Sunday.
