25-year-old transgender cheerleader kicked out of cheer camp after allegedly choking female teammate for saying she’s a ‘man’

A transgender cheerleader, born a biological male, was kicked out of a Texas summer camp for allegedly choking a female teammate. The trans cheerleader claims the teammate made “transphobic” comments.

Transgender cheerleader Averie Chanel Medlock, 25, was booted from the cheer camp at Ranger College for allegedly assaulting a female cheerleader.

Early in the morning of July 22, Medlock and another cheerleader, identified only as “Karleigh,” had a verbal altercation.

UKTN News reported, “Medlock alleges a teammate made transphobic and racist comments before the altercation, with video on a cell phone showing other cheerleaders hiding in a room from an excited Medlock.”

Medlock gave her side of the story in a Facebook post:

Well guys, I’ve officially retired as a cheerleader since 5:30 last night. A girl in the team was very disrespectful and told me I am a MAN with a PENIS and that [guys] should not be on the team. I stood up for myself and she called her mom and dad because she was scared because I [stood] up for myself. Her father said, “She still has testosterone and a penis and I will kill anyone who comes after my daughter.”

Medlock posted a video on social media where she went to the door of Karleigh’s room and reportedly said, “If anyone has a problem, speak it to my face like an adult.”

Karleigh contacted her father about the incident, claiming that Medlock strangled her.

Karleigh’s father posted a message about the incident on social media: “I’m asking you what you would have done if you got a call at 1am from your daughter saying that they locked themselves in the room with other girls after this person said you want to fight and then put their hands around the necks of my daughters.”

When police reportedly questioned Medlock about putting her hands on the other cheerleader’s throat, Medlock said she was just kidding.

KTAB and KRBC obtained a copy of the criminal citation, noting “it was a criminal offense for assault through physical contact.” The Texas media, along with the Eastland County District Attorney’s Office, confirmed that the subpoena had been issued for unwelcome physical contact.

After the subpoena was issued, Medlock was kicked out of the cheer camp and asked to leave the Ranger College grounds.

Medlock claims that the college and its cheerleading coach did not ask for her side of the story regarding the alleged attack.

Medlock admitted that everyone at the university knew she was transgender and that they received her very hospitably prior to the incident.

“They knew I was trans. They knew I was different from all the other girls. It wasn’t a big deal until her dad came over there and made a scene,” Medlock told KTAB/KRBC.

Medlock reportedly was able to join the cheerleading camp by changing her name about a month before the camp started.

Ranger College issued a statement: “Ranger College takes all allegations of this nature seriously and is committed to providing a learning environment free of discrimination. At this time, Ranger College follows all applicable Title IX regulations and governance policies.
