Indian shuttle Lakshya Sen crashed during the ongoing All England Open on Friday after losing the quarter-final match to Dutchman Mark Caljouw. The 19-year-old failed to overcome Caljouw’s challenge and lost the fierce encounter 17-21, 21-16, 17-21 in the clash that lasted 55 minutes. Lakshya faced loss in Game 1, but in Game 2 he made a strong comeback and gave the opponent a tough fight to bring shock in Game 3. But in the last game of the match, Caljouw showed his courage and experience to advance to the semi-finals of the competition.
On Thursday, Lakshya became the youngest Indian to reach the All England Open quarter-finals after beating Frenchman Thomas Rouxel 21-18, 21-17 in the second round.
Earlier today, women’s doubles pair Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy withdrew from the competition after losing back-to-back matches to Netherlands’ Selena Piek and Cheryl Seinen in the quarter-finals. The Indian duo lost to Selena and Cheryl’s 24th pair 22-24, 12-21 in 39 minutes.
PV Sindhu will face Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in her quarter-final clash later today.
