Apple Maps has started showing iPhone, iPad, and Mac users with COVID-19 airport travel advice to allow them easy access to local airport health requirements, including face covers, health tests or screenings; and quarantine guidelines. Data comes from Airports Council International (ACI) for major airports around the world, including major ones in India. Users simply need to search for an airport in Apple Maps to see its COVID-19 travel advice and local health requirements.
Using ACI data, Apple Maps displays COVID-19 travel advice for more than 300 airports around the world. These include Kempegowda International Airport (Bengaluru), Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai), Indira Gandhi International Airport (New Delhi), Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (Hyderabad) and Chandigarh International Airport (Chandigarh).
Apple maps show whether the airports listed have certain travel advice regarding COVID-19, such as mask requirements, health exams and quarantine guidelines. You can view these directions on the airport location map by searching for a specific airport on the Apple Maps app.
“Displaying this information in Apple Maps will help make this crucial data much more widely available to passengers,” ACI World CEO Luis Felipe de Oliveira said in a statement. “This will help passengers plan their trips and be reassured that their health and safety remains a priority for the industry as we all work towards a sustainable return to operations and global connectivity.”
ACI has also made airport guidance data available through an API that developers can integrate into their applications. The list of all participating airports is available via the ACI Check & Fly tool.
Earlier this month, Apple Maps began showing COVID-19 vaccination centers in the United States. Apple has also added to its mapping app various test locations and COVID-19 information on place cards from more than 4,400 retailers around the world.
