All Quiet On The Western Front, The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once lead the nominations for this year’s EE British Academy Film Awards.

The nominations were announced live by Hayley Atwell and Toheeb Jimoh on Thursday ahead of next month’s ceremony for the 76th Annual Film Awards hosted by actor Richard E Grant and TV host Alison Hammond.

The three films compete for Best Picture alongside Elvis and Tar – who also scored well in the announcement of the shortlist at British film’s biggest night.

All Quiet on The Western Front leads the way with 14 nominations, while The Banshees on Inisherin and Everything, Everywhere follow All At Once with 10, while Elvis has nine nominations and Tar has five nominations.

More than 7,000 critics participated in the shortlist of the best films for a variety of categories – from Best Actor to Production Design.

All Quiet On The Western Front is a 2022 epic anti-war film based on the 1929 novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque.

The Banshees of Inisherin follows two lifelong friends (Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson) who “find themselves at an impasse when one of them abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for both of them.”

Colin Farrell is nominated for Best Actor but faces stiff competition as he faces Austin Butler (Elvis), Brendan Fraser (The Whale), Daryl McCormack (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande), Paul Mescal (Aftersun ) and Bill Nighy (live).

In the Best Director category, four of the six are first-time director nominations: Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King); Todd Field (Tár), Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front).

There were four nominations for Aftersun; The batter; Good luck to you, Leo Grande; Top Gun: Maverick and The Whale and three nominations for Babylon; rich in light; Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro; Living and Triangle of Sadness respectively.

The highest-grossing film, All Quiet on the Western Front (14), is tied with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (2001) if not the highest-grossing English-language film in BAFTA history.

The following British short films were nominated: The Boy, The Mole, The UKTN and The Horse; middle guard; Your mountain awaits; The Ballad of Olive Morris; Boszigaga; bus girl; A drift and an Irish farewell.

Host Richard, 65, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the crime biography Can You Ever Forgive Me? the extraordinary range of this year’s films.’

He first rose to prominence playing a hapless drunken actor in Withnail And I in 1987 and had roles in Gosford Park, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Downton Abbey.

Alison, meanwhile, hosts BAFTA Studio, an immersive and accessible experience, as part of the UKTN One show and film critic Ali Plum on the red carpet with Vick Hope.

The This Morning star, 47, said: ‘I’m so excited to be hosting the EE Bafta Film Awards this year with THE Richard E Grant.

She added, “We’re going to have a lot of fun bringing the glitz and glamor of backstage to everyone watching at home around the world.”

Emma Mackey and Aimee Lou Wood, who play friends Aimee and Maeve in Sex Education, are among the nominees for the BAFTA EE Rising Star Award, announced Tuesday.

Naomi Ackie, who recently took on the iconic role of global superstar Whitney Houston in Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody, is also on the nomination list.

The actress, 30, said of her nomination: ‘I’ve been following and being inspired by the EE BAFTA Film Awards for so many years, so to be recognized by this incredible group of artists is huge!

Daryl McCormack, who is known for starring in the British comedy-drama Good Luck to You, and Sheila Atim, who stars in the recently released historical epic feature film The Woman King, are also in the running for the prize.

The award is now in its 18th year and is the only BAFTA voted for by the public.

Voting is now open on the BAFTA website and the winner will be announced on Sunday 19 February at the EE BAFTA Film Awards ceremony.

For the first time, the ceremony will include a live broadcast to announce the final four category winners after they have been previously taped and then broadcast on the same day.

The BAFTAs will be broadcast on UKTN One and UKTN iPlayer on February 19.
