Paul Pogba was among the other talking points when Erling Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola met Barcelona, according to a report.

Alf-Inge, the father of Raiola and Haaland, recently toured potential Borussia Dortmund suitors. The striker is one of the most in-demand players ahead of the summer transfer market. And the first club his side spoke to was Barcelona.

Raiola and Haaland senior met Barca president Joan Laporta, who has just returned to the club. The new chef wants to show his intentions to restore the club to its former glory.

Therefore, he and other club officials held talks with the Haaland camp to see what it would take to sign him. In return, Raiola and company wanted to know how ready they were.

But it looks like the two-and-a-half-hour discussion didn’t just focus on Haaland. According to OK Diario, three other Raiola clients entered the conversation.

Pogba was one of the other names who took part in the talks. Raiola has already issued a firm statement that the midfielder will leave Manchester United in summer.

The Frenchman will only have one year left on his contract at this point. His agent has since clarified his words but made it clear at the time that he was considering finding a new club.

Pogba has responded well on the pitch for United since then so they will want to keep him. It is not yet known whether he will sign a new contract, however – even if he is open to doing so.

Therefore, other clubs will be watching the situation and it looks like Barcelona could be a part of it.

Pogba’s previous contenders were believed to be Juventus and Real Madrid. However, the race to sign him could widen if Barcelona respond to Raiola’s suggestions.

Dutch defenders Stefan De Vrij and Matthijs De Ligt were also on the agenda. The two currently play in Serie A with Inter and Juventus respectively, but the latter was a possible target for Barca before moving there.

The report of OK Diario make it clear that Barcelona will not be able to afford Haaland. However, they made a “commitment” at the meeting to accept some of Raiola’s other clients.

Barca want to make it as difficult as possible for their rivals Real Madrid to sign Haaland and also want to strengthen their own squad. Therefore, they might consider bidding for the likes of Pogba.

Laporta has made it clear that Barcelona cannot afford players worth more than € 100million. But even though United spent more than that on Pogba in 2016, the World Cup winner is worth less now due to the lack of time left on his contract.

“I always say there is only one truth in everything. It’s not what I think, it’s not what you think, it’s what the market thinks. So the day Paul Pogba no longer has a club, then he would neither be appreciated nor underestimated.

“But today if someone asks me, ‘Can you find a club for Paul?’ I could take my five (year old) nephew and find a club for Paul at a high level.

“Again, 50% of people like you, 50% hate you. But Paul has fantastic appeal around the world. Maybe the problem with the big transfer, the weird thing about leaving for free and then coming back for that money, was something people weren’t used to. Maybe it haunted him for a little while.

“But I think he should be appreciated overall. I heard from the club side that he was, at least, and from Solskjaer’s side. So that’s the only thing that matters.
