Barefoot prisoner escapes custody in Levin


Police are appealing for sightings of a 41-year-old man, Marley Gregory, who escaped from custody while being transported to Levin Jail this morning.

In a statement, police said Gregory was facing multiple charges in Palmerston District Court this morning, appearing via an audiovisual link from Levin.

A police spokesperson said Gregory was taken into custody after his court appearance before escaping from police on foot at around 10.50am as he was being transferred from a police cell to a van in Levin.

Police said he was last seen barefoot and dressed in gray clothing.

Gregory is believed to have links to Palmerston North, Marton, Woodville and Dannevirke.

According to the police, he is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Police are urging anyone who sees Gregory to call 111 and quote event number 220618/3121
