President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will host the first meeting of the Interagency Task Force on Reproductive Health Care Access Wednesday, when the president is expected to take further executive steps to protect abortion services.
At the meeting, Biden will issue and sign a second executive order that will help women have abortions, even if abortion is illegal in their state, a senior government official said.
The new executive order builds on measures taken by the Biden-Harris administration to protect reproductive health care and access to those services since the Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

The new executive order comes after Biden signed an executive order last month to expand reproductive health services.

It directs the Department of Health and Human Services to use funds, including Medicaid, to support women who travel out of state for abortion services, a senior government official said.
It also directs the department to ensure that health care providers comply with federal non-discrimination laws when providing such services and orders it to collect data to measure the impact of the ruling on maternal health, the official added. .

The injunction comes as Democrats attempt to codify abortion rights initially recognized in Roe v. Wade.

The senior administration official emphasized Biden’s commitment to defending reproductive rights, especially before the midterm elections are expected to turn the political majorities from Democrats to Republicans in the House of Representatives, the US Senate or both in November.
