Bradenton man guilty of making counterfeit money

TAMPA, Fla. (CW44 News At 10) – Anthony Wayne Smith (58, Bradenton) pleaded guilty to making counterfeit money. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 6, 2022.

According to the plea agreement, Smith fabricated US Federal Reserve Notes at his home in Bradenton. While executing a search warrant at Smith’s residence, law enforcement recovered, among other things, a large amount of counterfeit bills hidden throughout the residence, textured printing paper and printers .

Additionally, Smith’s laptop contained digital images of US Federal Reserve Notes that had been used in the production and manufacture of counterfeit money.
