Bronx teenager arrested for murder of rapper Moneygang Vontae


A teenage suspect has been arrested in the murder of Los Angeles rapper Moneygang Vontae at a Bronx drugstore.

River Jones, 18, was charged with murder in the June 9 ambush on Thursday.

Avanti Frowner, 27, who rapped under the stage name Moneygang Vontae, was in New York City scouting locations for a music video when five men cornered him at the Amazing Community Pharmacy on E. Tremont Ave. near Arthur Ave. in Tremont., the cops said.

The NYPD’s Bronx Warrants Squad arrested Jones Thursday at Monroe College in New Rochelle, law enforcement sources said. Jones lives in a dorm at school, according to cops.

A police spokesman could not say if he was suspected of being the shooter.

Vontae and a friend from California were buying over-the-counter eye drops at the drug store when two of the five suspects approached him and asked if he wanted to buy some weed, law enforcement sources said.

He said no, and the two suspects were joined by three others who demanded his property and his gold chain, which bore his nameplate, cops said.

After a filmed struggle, one of the suspects fumbled with a gun before shooting the rapper multiple times. As Vontae lay bleeding, the shooter fired another shot into his chest, then fled with the huge “Moneygang Vontae” nameplate he wore on his neck, cops said.

Jones awaits arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court.
