Chelsea ready to offer ‘heavy’ package as new deal becomes urgent priority

Chelsea are ready to pounce on the first sign of trouble and offer a “heavy” package to an Inter Milan star whose new deal has become an urgent priority, according to a report.

Under former Blues boss Antonio Conte, Inter Milan won the Serie A title last season. However, the financial effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have forced the sales of several of their first-team stars. Chelsea were one of the beneficiaries when Romelu Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge.

A report last week indicated that the two clubs could once again make contact in the market. Chelsea were linked with price of Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic away from San Siro.

The 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract and his all-in-action style would lend itself well to a Thomas Tuchel midfielder.

Chelsea are said to be able to negotiate a pre-contractual deal with Brozovic in January. As such, Inter have reportedly offered to start talks on a new Brozovic contract this week.

Now, Sports witness (citing Tuttosport) provide a Update on the situation. They claim that while Brozovic has no qualms about signing new terms with Inter, Chelsea have not given up on hope.

They are described as being prepared to offer a “big” package to get his signature if talks on the proposed contract stall. Further indicating their desire to land the Croatian, Chelsea are seen as “ready to sniff out the deal” if the opportunity arises.

With Chelsea in a circle, Tuttosport Inter have put a new Brozovic contract high on their agenda. According to their terms, they want to conclude a new agreement “as soon as possible”.

A silver lining for Chelsea could come from Inter’s financial difficulties. Last week’s report claimed that the a new deal can be struck for € 6million a year, but Inter will seek a discount. Instead, they plan to come up with an annual salary of 5 million euros.

All eyes will now be on the progress of talks with Brozovic.

Chelsea dismissively targets transfer links

Meanwhile, in-form striker Christopher Nkunku has spoken of Chelsea’s reported transfer interest and revealed he is quite perplexed.

The 23-year-old plays as an attacking midfielder or a wide attacker. He started the season for RB Leipzig in stunning form, scoring nine goals in 10 games. As a direct result, his displays were noticed by scouts from all over Europe.

Earlier this month Mercato on foot claimed Chelsea were keen on Nkunku. Of course, Thomas Tuchel has known the player well from the days of the pair until together at Paris Saint-Germain.

And recently interviewed by a German point of sale SportBild on a possible transfer, Nkunku said: “If I thought about other clubs, we might as well forget about our season goals.

“Our big goals are only realistic if we achieve something with Leipzig. Otherwise, these questions do not arise. I still have a contract until 2024 and I feel very comfortable at RB Leipzig.
