Indian Nitendra Singh Rawat finished 12th in the men’s marathon race at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday. Rawat, 35, clocked 2 hours 19 minutes 22 seconds into the race won by Uganda’s Victor Kiplangat (2:10:55). Tanzanian Alphonce Felix Simbu (2:12:29) and Kenyan Michael Mugo Githae (2:13:16) took silver and bronze respectively. Rawat has a personal best of 2:16:05 that he clocked in the New Delhi Marathon in March. He was eight minutes and 27 seconds behind the gold winner.
At one point Kiplangat seemed to be heading the wrong way on the course.

“The people riding the bikes confused me. They told me to turn back, but I made it to the finish,” Kiplangat said.
