After a disappointing start to their 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign, David Warner was retired on Saturday as skipper of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). The decision was not well received by many fans. The 2016 SRH Champions have announced that Kane Williamson will replace Warner with immediate effect and that they will make changes to their combination away from home from Sunday when they face the Rajasthan Royals. Warner has been one of the most consistent performers for SRH and one of IPL’s top scorers. He has scored over 500 points in each of the past six seasons and won the Orange Cap three times between 2015 and 2019 – more than any other player in IPL history.
SRH won his only title under Warner’s leadership and fans understandably have a special place in him, and they took to Twitter for their support.
Warner deserves better treatment man. He is in the top 5 of the league’s all-time greats.
SRH qualified for knockouts in 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 under him.
Only 4-5 games did not go well and he is abandoned.

When all hopes were empty he was SRH’s biggest prospect and won games on his own and out of nowhere. Always being excluded from the squad for two bad games despite having carried the team throughout its history.
It’s the loss of SRH, not Warner. pic.twitter.com/5TcBDFzY8D

a bad season will not change his legacy in the IPL.
Warner came back strong after the sandpaper door and he will come back strong as well. pic.twitter.com/BAHcx2kq2i

#Warner #SunrisersHyderabad This man deserves to keep the job, I don’t know if he gave up on purpose, the Sunrisers lack solid support players, the squad itself is held by only 4 of them, Warner, Kane Williamson, Johny Bairstow, Rasheed Khan. All the best new cap pic.twitter.com/i8bcM4ibNH

Fans have questioned SRH management’s decision to remove Warner’s captain as he wasn’t the only reason for the team’s poor run so far.
Warner became the skipper of SRH in 2015 and during his four helm positions in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2020, SRH made the playoffs three times and went all the way in 2016.
Warner is the most successful overseas batsman in IPL history with 5,447 runs in 148 games at an average of 42.22 and a strike rate of 140.13. He is the only IPL player to have smashed 50 half-centuries in the tournament.
