Indian Premier League (IPL) Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise posted a video on their official Twitter account of a batsman taking the stick during his training session. DC’s Twitter account also shared a caption with him who asked their followers to guess who the “DC Star” was at the strike-ply fold in the video. The caption read, “The clue is in the position. Can you guess this DC star? #YehHaiNayiDilli.” The drummer demonstrates a particular ritual of touching both his pads and the thigh protector before making a stroke through the covers.

Fan reactions have hinted that the drummer in the video could be Steve Smith, who has a particular preposition ritual before each ball he faces.
Smith was part of DC during the 2021 IPL, where he scored 104 points in the six games completed. The tournament was then postponed due to the emergence of positive COVID-19 cases in the bio-bubble.
Smith was then named by Cricket Australia (CA) to Australia’s 23-man squad for the Limited Tour of the West Indies.
Aaron Finch was chosen as captain, while Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, David Warner and Pat Cummins were all named along with Smith to a strong squad.
Drummer Marnus Labuschagne was not selected, due to “logistical complexities” of joining from the UK. To join the team, he would have had to undergo two weeks of mandatory quarantine.
Tanveer Sanga, Adam Zampa, Mitch Swepson and Ashton Agar were the spinners to have made the team.
The tour features five T20 internationals and three ODIs that will run July 9-24.
