DJ, producer Kay-9ine strives to make music differently

Pretoria – House DJ and music producer Kagiso Mokgatle – popularly known as Kay-9ine – is preparing his second album to keep his fans on the dance floor.

The Second Colors of Music, due to drop next year, will be Mokgatle’s second offering.

His first album, titled Musically Gifted, was released under the House Afrika label.

Born and raised in Ga-Rankuwa Zone 1 in Pretoria, the youngest of four siblings knew from an early age that he had a strong attraction to music.

His brother Kenny, who was a DJ, kept him close to music, and so his house music career began.

Mokgatle, 31, a music engineer who mainly plays Afro Tech, said producing was a calling for him.

“Growing up, I would make radio figures out of boxes of furniture, then pretend there was a microphone and sing and entertain the crowd,” the DJ said.

“We started a group of boys in elementary school in my early teens. I realized that my love for music ran deep and I had to pursue it. I found so much comfort in listening to music, so much so that I felt I had more to give than just being a consumer.

Like many teenagers who grew up without a father, life hasn’t always been easy for Mokgatle, so he strives to make his mother proud.

“Growing up without a father figure at home was not easy, but my mom managed to play both roles as a parent.”

With 10 years of experience, Mokgatle has not lost his passion for music and strives to do things differently.

“I am inspired by different things, from nature to drums in traditional ceremonies, and I am also different because I am versatile in music. I play and produce almost all types of music. “

The man who delivered The One is currently working with DJ Edit SA on his next release, titled Kennedy Mudzuli EP. DJ Afro Tech is Pretoria News’ assistant editor-in-chief Kennedy Mudzuli.

Kay-9ine also works with Wez Shunt from the United States as well as Tasha Larae.
