Electric utility Eskom says phase 2 load shedding will be implemented this weekend due to the ongoing shortage of generating capacity.
During the evening rush hour from 4 p.m. to midnight, phase 2 will be shut down again on Saturday and Sunday.
Eskom will immediately communicate any further significant changes, it said.
“Capacity constraints have been exacerbated by the delay in returning a production unit for maintenance at the Koeberg, Kusile and Tutuka power plants, as well as the unplanned outages of a production unit in Camden and Medupi, two in Hendrina and four units in Arnot. power plants.
“Some generation units are expected to go back into service in the coming days,” it said.
Phase 2 load shedding is currently running until midnight.
The weekend shutdown will also help restore emergency generation reserves, which have been widely used to meet demand in recent days, the power company said.
