SINGAPORE: Five people have been taken to hospital following a multi-vehicle accident along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) in the early morning of Saturday (Jan. 21).
Emergency services were alerted at around 5:10 am on Saturday for the accident along the PIE towards Tuas after the Central Expressway (Seletar Expressway) exit.
The accident involved two cars, two taxis, a truck and a motorcycle, police said Saturday afternoon in response to questions from UKTN.
Five people, aged between 19 and 69, were consciously taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The Singapore Civil Defense Force said it was also alerted to a vehicle fire at the same location around the same time. The fire was extinguished with a jet of water.
Police investigations are ongoing.
A video taken from a passing vehicle was posted to Facebook shortly after the incident, showing two cars and a motorcycle involved in the accident. A Trans-Cab taxi can also be seen with its front smashed in as firefighters worked to put out a fire under another car.
On the other side of the road, a truck had climbed onto the fence.
