Ola Electric announced the appointment of Wayne Burgess as the new head of vehicle design. Burgess has previously worked with high-end British car manufacturers such as Aston Martin, Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
Wayne Burgess, former boss of design at Paramex, Geely moves to Ola Electric
Ola Electric has hired one of Britain’s prolific designers as the new head of vehicle design. Wayne Burgess will be the company’s new design manager. What’s important about Ola’s announcement is that Burgess will lead a team that will also work on future Ola Electric scooters, motorcycles and cars. Of course, the main pulling factor was the fully electric ecosystem (electric vehicle) in which Ola will operate. Wayne Burgess said, “I look forward to my job at Ola Electric and the opportunity to lead a team that will work on the design of the cup. I am thrilled to be a part of Ola as she accelerates on her path to becoming a global leader in EV solutions. “Having spent over 30 years in the automotive industry, Burgess now wants to share his knowledge and experience with a wider audience. He also believes the time is right as the industry moves towards an era of sustainable vehicles. , emission-free and, at one point, autonomous.
Burgess comes to Ola with considerable work, having previously worked with high-end British car manufacturers such as Aston Martin, Jaguar and, more recently, Lotus. His early years were also spent at Rolls-Royce and Bentley, but he is most famous for his work at Jaguar, first as a protégé of Geoff Lawson and then of Ian Callum. He worked closely on the Jaguar F-Type sports car and was the studio director of the F-Pace SUV project. He also worked on the design of a few other famous cars like the Jaguar XF and XE, the 1998 Bentley Arnage and the Aston Martin DB9. Burgess will be leaving Paramex, a UK design and engineering consultancy, where he was Chief Design Officer, in charge of the group’s design activities. Previously he was responsible for setting up Geely’s sprawling design center in Coventry, when he worked closely on the designs for the Lotus brand.
Ola Electric is on the rise – having recently hired YS Kim as head of global sales and distribution. Kim also has nearly four decades of experience and has worked extensively in India during his years at Hyundai and Kia Motors. For Ola Electric, bringing Wayne Burgess on board is a huge statement, as it indicates the seriousness and intention to move quickly to many types of vehicles in their larger EV production plans. Speaking on the decision, Bhavish Aggarwal, Group President and CEO, Ola, said, “Wayne is a fantastic addition to our management team and will bring global appeal and design aesthetics to our industry. constantly evolving. Vehicle form factors will be fundamentally redesigned. Wayne’s expertise in designing some of the most legendary vehicles will also be helpful in bringing these new form factors to consumers. I look forward to working with him to build the world’s most iconic range of electric vehicles. “
Ola will begin its journey in electric vehicles with the launch of its Ola Scooter in the coming months. The brand’s first product, the scooter is expected to be aggressively priced and offer cutting-edge technology and battery life. For the record, last week when we learned that Pratap Bose had resigned from Tata Motors’ design leadership, social media was filled with speculation he would be moving to Ola. Burgess’s appointment puts an end to this speculation.
