A French journalist kidnapped by Islamist activists in the northern Mali town of Gao last month appeared in a video calling on French authorities to do their utmost to release him.
“My name is Olivier Dubois. I am French. I am journalist. I was kidnapped in Gao on April 8 by JNIM (Al-Qaeda North Africa).
“I’m talking to my family, friends and the French authorities to do everything in their power to free me,” Dubois said in a 21-second video shared on social media.
Reuters was unable to immediately confirm the authenticity of the clip.
Malian authorities were not immediately available for comment. The French Foreign Ministry declined to comment.
