Funeral held for 4-year-old Liliana Merdy, 1 of 3 children reportedly drowned by their mother Erin Merdy at Coney Island

NEW YORK – A funeral is being held for one of the three children who drowned on Coney Island.

Police believe 4-year-old Liliana Merdy drowned by her mother.

Family friends carried pink balloons to Caribe Funeral Home on Utica Avenue in honor of Liliana, UKTN’s Natalie Duddridge reported.

Her funeral takes place days after her mother, 30-year-old Erin Merdy, passed away charged with murder at the death of her three children.

Funerals for the other two children – 7-year-old Zachary and 3-month-old Oliver – are held in different locations.

The pastor of the family says relatives of the children face unimaginable grief as they mourn Liliana on Monday and try to understand why this happened.

“She lit up the room. She was a spirited young lady who was full of life,” said Pastor Heston Williams. “This is a situation that no one could fathom, no one could understand. It is my responsibility – at least myself, as a pastor – to pray for everyone and everyone.”
