Genshin Impact update 1.5 is here, and that means Zhongli’s return as a potential attraction, alongside his appearance in the main storyline of the new update.
Zhongli is an interesting case because when he debuted he was significantly undernourished, and fans complained until miHoYo polished him not once but several times. Now, he’s not only the strongest Geo character in the game, but one of the strongest in the 5-star period.
As such, it’s time to review which builds are best for Zhongli and see if anything has changed with the addition of new weapons and artifacts.
Tenacity of the Millelith (Ridge Watch Estate): 2 pieces – HP + 20%, 4 pieces – When an elemental skill hits an opponent, the ATK of all nearby party members is increased by 20% and their shield strength is increased by 30% for 3s. This effect can be triggered once every 0.5 sec. This effect can still be triggered even when the character using this artifact set is not on the field.
Pale Flame (Ride Watch Estate): 2 pieces – Physical DMG + 25%, 4 pieces – When an elemental skill hits an opponent, ATK is increased by 9% for 7s. This effect stacks up to 2 times and can be triggered once every 0.3 sec. Once 2 stacks are achieved, the 2 set effect is increased by 100%
Archaic Petra (Domaine de Guyun): 2 coins – Earn a 15% Geo DMG bonus. 4 pieces – Upon obtaining an Elemental Shard created by a Crystallization reaction, all party members gain 35% bonus DMG for that particular element for 10s. Only one form of Basic DMG Bonus can be earned in this manner at a time.
Noblesse Oblige (Clear and Pool Mountain Cavern): 2 pieces – Elemental Explosion DMG + 20%. 4 pieces – Using an elemental explosion increases the ATK of all party members by 20% for 12s. This effect cannot stack.
As you can see, the main change to the potential roster here is a new artifact in version 1.5 that was practically designed just for Zhongli, given its focus on ATK and shield strength, you don’t have to. practically no need to do anything to increase it considerably with the 4. coin bonus. You are also welcome to make old favorites like pairing two pieces of Noblesse with two pieces of archaic Petra. I’m also curious to see how the new set of Physics DPS might work on him with certain configurations.
Vortex Vanquisher (5 stars) – Increases shield strength by 20%. Hitting opponents increases ATK by 4% for 8s. Max 5 batteries. Can only occur once every 0.3 s. When protected by a shield, this ATK boost effect is increased by 100%
Staff of Homa (5 stars) – HP increased by 20%. Additionally, provides an ATK bonus based on 0.8% of the wearer’s max health. When the wearer’s HP is less than 50%, this ATK bonus is increased by an additional 1% of max HP.
Primordial Jade (5 stars) – On hit, increases ATK by 3.2% for 6s. Max 7 batteries. This effect can only occur once every 0.3 sec. While in possession of the maximum possible stacks, DMG dealt is increased by 12%.
Skyward Spine (5 stars) – Increases CRIT rate by 8% and increases normal ATK speed by 12%. Additionally, normal and charged attacks on enemies have a 50% chance to trigger a Void Blade that deals 40% ATK in DMG in a small area. This effect cannot occur more than once every 2s.
Crescent Pike (4 stars) – After picking up an Orb / Elemental Particle, normal and charged attacks deal an additional 20% ATK DMG for 5s.
No wonder yes, the weapon weapon literally designed for Zhongli is still the best option for him. But you could do worse than use Xiao’s jade weapon arm, which hadn’t even come out when Zhongli first arrived, so it could be an interesting replacement, potentially. The same goes for Hu Tao’s HP-based Staff of Homa.
These are your best options right now, it seems. Experiment with the new sets in particular, as both seem to be able to be really solid on him, no pun intended.
