Alphabet Inc’s Google is temporarily imposing weekly COVID-19 tests on anyone entering Google’s offices or facilities in the United States, UKTN reported Friday, citing a memo obtained by the news channel.
Anyone entering Google’s U.S. work sites will be required to test negative, report their vaccination status, and wear surgical-grade masks in the office, according to the report.
The temporary policy of weekly testing comes amid outbreaks of highly contagious cases of the Omicron variant in the country, the report adds.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
Last month, Google said it was delaying its plan to return to the desktop globally from January amid growing concerns over the Omicron variant.
Google, which was one of the first companies to ask its employees to work from home during the pandemic, had told employees they would lose their pay and eventually be fired if they failed to follow its vaccination rules. against COVID-19, according to a UKTN report in December.
