google dismissed the prospect of working permanently from home in a memo to staff saying they hope to regain majority in the office by September 1.
Staff at the tech giant will need to request to work more than 14 days a year away from the office to end the flexible work culture during the pandemic that many Silicon Valley companies initially called for.
Google was one of the first companies to fire staff home at the start of the crisis. Google said staff could request long-term work from home “under the most exceptional circumstances,” but it could call them back to the office at any time, according to a memo viewed by UKTN.
Some other tech giants, such as Twitter and Square, have said thousands of employees can stay at home all the time.
Elsewhere today, TSMC, the Taiwanese chipmaker, will spend $ 100 billion to expand its facilities in the face of growing demand for semiconductor technology.
