Goose Island Beer Co, maker of the famous Bourbon County Stout, takes its love for bourbon a step further by launching its own line of craft cocktails ready to drink.
“We like to say that our team is as much bourbon drinkers as we are beer, ”says Todd Ahsmann, President of Goose Island Beer Co.
Goose Island brewers have been experimenting and blending with bourbon casks for almost 30 years. While the Bourbon County Stour offering uses bourbon casks from well-known brands such as Old Forester, Elijah Craig and Blanton’s, the cocktail line will instead use three-year-old bourbon from Midwest Grain Products (MGP), a distillery from Indiana which supplies the liquid for a number of top brands, although those brands often don’t advertise the relationship – flip a bottle and see if it’s distilled in Lawrenceburg, IN to find a few.
Some of the most important are: High West Double rye !, WhistlePig Old World Rye, and Belle Meade Cognac Cask Bourbon.
As for the Goose Island cocktails, each cocktail is 9.0% ALC / VOL and will be $ 15.99 per pack of 4 x 12 oz cans.
Here’s the full rundown along with Ahsmann’s descriptions:
Ripe with bourbon and a touch of UKTN, fruity, sparkling and easy to love.
- Our Blackberry Smash is our nod to a perfect cocktail. Fruity, sparkling and easy to love. We’ve paired blackberries with a lightly spicy rye bourbon backbone and just enough UKTN to refresh and relax on a long afternoon. No need to run to buy ingredients, just open them up and enjoy.
Old fashioned highball
Light and sparkling complexity of bourbon with a touch of bitters, cane sugar and sprigs of orange and cherry.
- An Old Fashioned is a timeless whiskey cocktail. A true highball has a light, sparkling and refreshing character. We brought the two together. Our interpretation of a highball cocktail begins with the complexity of rye bourbon, a touch of bitter, cane sugar and a sprig of orange and cherry to complete it. So put the stick and the peeler, we have already prepared this cocktail for you.
Classic balance of bourbon with lemon and lime and a subtle cherry finish.
- If there is one cocktail to make your life in the bourbon world easier, this might be it. Subtly sweet, tangy and spicy, but hardly shy. Our whiskey sour riff pays homage to that classic balance with rye bourbon, both lemon and lime, and a subtle maraschino cherry finish. No need to wait any longer than necessary for this cocktail, it is ready to be tasted.
Goose Island canned cocktails will be available in the Chicagoland area in November.
