Here’s what we should be thankful for this Thanksgiving


This segment from What’s Ahead celebrates the hard-won wisdom of the Pilgrims, which enabled them to transform hunger and deprivation into abundance. The original Plymouth colony almost collapsed. Food shortages and discontent were endemic. The problem was in their original economic system in which all property was owned and cultivated in common – what today would be called socialism or communism.

Faced with chronic starvation, the colony changed things radically. Each family was given their own piece of land, and whatever they grew there they could use as they saw fit. With liberty and the settlers’ right to the fruits of their labor, hardship soon turned into abundance.
