Lots of changes fell on the island as we settled in Fortnite Chapter 2, season 6 tends to happen, but the animals are probably the biggest: we once had NPCs, but now we have snarling NPCs on all fours. And, above all, tame NPCs. We’ve had to do this for weekly challenges before, but if you need a refresher, let’s see how to tame animals in Fortnite.
There are a few different animals that you can tame here, but the process is basically the same. You need to get her some food, throw her on the ground nearby, then walk up to her and interact with her while she’s distracted. If you are successful, you will have a dangerous new friend to take with you into battle.
If you tame a wild boar, any vegetable will do. If you are taming a carnivorous raptor or a wolf, you will need meat, although any kind of meat is fine.
A few tips, however. On the one hand, bring a bunch of food and scatter it in a tight space: if the animal finishes your treat before you have a chance to tame it, it will become hostile again and start attacking you. Additionally, wolves and raptors are much more dangerous than wild boars, so consider crafting the hunter’s cloak to make sure they don’t start crying over you before you can drop the food. Raptors also travel in pairs, so make sure the other doesn’t leave you while you tame their friend.
And those are the basics: It’s a fun new mechanic, which you can use for some interesting combat scenarios, especially now that the Raptors are in the mix and are actually quite dangerous. I’d love to see someone waltz into the final circle with an army of dinosaurs like some sort of prehistoric druid, but it looks like it would be an incredibly tricky feat to pull off. Either way, check back for more guides and information as we continue here.
