Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma fought for a noble cause at the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament opener against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as he wore shoes highlighting an endangered rhino species. True to his style, this IPL took a unique approach to speaking about a cause Rohit has long supported – the conservation of the Great One-horned Rhino or the Indian Rhino. The move was applauded by former England international Kevin Pietersen on Twitter.
The caption for Rohit’s Instagram post read: “Yesterday when I stepped onto the pitch it was more than just a game for me. Playing cricket is my dream and helping to make this world a better place is a cause for which we all need to work on and It was special for me to carry a cause so close to my heart with me on the pitch while I do what I love. Every step counts. “
Rohit wore specially designed shoes that showcased endangered species.
The art on Rohit’s Spikes made a bold statement literally calling it “Save the Rhino” and it will surely educate more people and help his vision save “vulnerable” species from extinction.
Pietersen, who supports the same cause, praised Rohit’s gesture towards endangered species.
The caption read, “The Big Moms kicked off last night in the opening of @IPL. @ ImRo45 is continually playing for a cause – SAVE THE RHINOS! With folded hands.”
