Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma will look to make history in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) by becoming the first captain to win the trophy three times in a row. The right-handed opener trained hard ahead of the season opener on April 9 and is expected to play a key role in a star-studded MI squad. MI teased what was to come from the explosive batsman on Instagram on Wednesday with a clip of Rohit Sharma tackling his trademark shot in the net.
Rohit Sharma is the most successful captain in IPL history, having led the Mumbai Indians to a record five titles. The Chennai Super Kings have the second best trophy cabinet, with three.
In IPL 2020, Rohit Sharma scored 332 points in 12 games as MI dominated the season in the UAE.
Although he didn’t have the most prolific season of the seasons, Rohit scored a fine half-century in the final against the Delhi Capitals as Mumbai clinched the title.
The Mumbai Indians will start their campaign with the season opener against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IPL 2021 will be played in six cities and all matches will be played at neutral venues.
The six locations are Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.
