Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it arrested a 20-year-old Uduak Frank Akpan for the murder of Miss Iniobong Umoren, who was reported missing days ago.
State police public relations officer SP Odiko Macdon, who revealed this in a statement on Sunday, said the suspect lured the victim to his home on the pretext of offering him his job.
He said the suspect raped the victim in his home and killed her, adding that to cover his tracks he dug a shallow grave and buried her in his father’s compound.
The statement also said the suspect claimed to have reported his atrocities to his local government chairman before fleeing to Calabar for fear of apprehension.
The statement in part, “Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested a 20-year-old Uduak Frank Akpan for kidnapping, raping and murdering a Miss Iniobong Umoren.
“On 04/30/2021, the Command received a report on the disappearance of the victim.
“According to the available leads, the men of the command’s anti-kidnapping brigade, led by the CSP Inengiye Igose, consolidated themselves on the great initial progress made by the DPO Uruan, the SP Samuel Ezeugo and arrested the author who confessed to luring his victim to his house under the pretext of giving him a job, but ended up sexually and physically assaulting him, which led to his death. To cover her tracks, he dragged her and buried her in a shallow grave within her father’s compound.
“The deceased was exhumed and deposited at the UUTH for autopsy.
“The suspect confessed to informing the president of his local government of his atrocities before fleeing to Calabar and was never handed over to the police by anyone.
“The suspect is an avowed serial rapist who admitted rape to other victims. He will be charged in court at the end of the investigation.
“Police Commissioner CP Amienghene Andrew called on young people and job seekers to beware of the activities of crooks and other underworld men.
“While appreciating the efforts of the social media family and other injustice fighters, he expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.”
