With five half centuries and a hundred under his belt in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul is surely a class act. Rahul’s fine total of 670 races in the last edition of the IPL also earned him his first orange cap. But critics have for some time now been pointing fingers at Rahul’s strike rate, which they say could be improved. However, this time around Rahul should be more aggressive, according to Punjab batting coach Wasim Jaffer. “KL hit a bit timidly last season. He probably hit deeper because there wasn’t a lot of stick after No.5, and Glenn Maxwell wasn’t shooting,” the Punjab website said. Kings at UK Time News. “He took that responsibility of trying to stay in the compound and get the job done. This time around everyone will see an aggressive KL Rahul for sure.”
Jaffer spoke about the strategic choices made by the franchise to acquire the right talent and place them in the right positions. He said these decisions can help players like Rahul explore their full potential and play more freely and express themselves to the fullest.
Commenting on the team’s new talent, Jaffer focused on Shahrukh Khan and said he could be grim to watch. “He (Shahrukh) is an exceptional hitter. He was instrumental in Tamil Nadu’s title triumph with Syed Mushtaq Ali. Fabien Allen is another exciting talent as is Prabhsimran Singh,”
The Punjab Kings coach said there was a lot more balance on his side than last year. “We were lacking bowlers who could support Mohammed Shami. In Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith, we have two stimulators who can play fast,” added Jaffer.
The Punjab Kings face the Rajasthan Royals in their season opener on Monday April 12 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
