Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson praised Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant and gave him advice ahead of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) Qualifier 2 on Wednesday. “My advice to Rishabh Pant is to play with freedom, to have that air of arrogance and confidence – which he does when he’s at his best like he did in the last game against Chennai Super Kings ( CSK), those one-handed six, ”says Watson.
“He’s absolutely crazy, the skills he has, and for me the advice would be to go out and have that confidence. Don’t let situations, leaders dictate how you play. You go out and play with freedom – take the game, ”he added.
Watson called Pant a “match winner” and said he could withdraw any opposition game.
“If you feel like you can field a bowler, then you fully commit to it and engage him – because he’s a game winner. He can take the opposition out of play very quickly – and everyone wants to. See it, the team wants to see it and he, as the leader, wants to see it too, ”Watson said.
The 40-year-old also praised the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) best hitting order.
“KKR has really changed things since Shubman Gill and Iyer (Venkatesh) started to open the stick and really take the game. You can see a big change between the IPL first leg in India and the one in the Arab Emirates. united, ”Watson said.
“The intensity they showed from the first ball was very evident and they are able to capitalize on that in the first six overs and because Tripathi (Rahul) in particular was so good in the middle overs, that ‘he set up a platform for KKR to turn things around,’ he added.
KKR and DC will face off on Wednesday for a place in the 2021 IPL Final against CSK.
