Japan is trying to fix a child custody system that has come under fire from all sides

Yasuo Hojyo was home alone when his wife and 5-year-old son appeared in the doorway. He said the boy seemed troubled.

“My son looked uneasily at my wife. He looked confused,” Hojyo said.

When he returned from work a few days later, they were gone. It contained a letter from a lawyer stating that his wife had filed for divorce.
