The granddaughter of US President Joe Biden, Naomi Biden, will marry Peter Neal, a law student at the University of Pennsylvania, on the South Lawn of the White House on Saturday. This will be the first wedding where the granddaughter of a sitting president walks down the aisle as the bride at the White House. It will also be the 19th wedding at the venue since 1812, according to the UKTN.
Naomi Biden is the daughter of Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle. The 28-year-old is Joe Biden’s oldest grandchild. Although she is a lawyer, her husband-to-be Peter Neal is an associate at Georgetown Law’s Center on National Security.
On Thursday, Mr Neal, 25, shared a glimpse of himself and his partner holding hands as they stood in front of a chiffon-wrapped arch. “I need to get the money to secure the license to get married,” he captioned the post, adding that the photo was taken using a self-timer.
According to News week, the couple has been together for the past four years. They began a romantic relationship after being set on a date by a mutual friend in New York City in 2018.
Mr Neal proposed in September last year with an emerald-cut diamond in a setting that incorporated the band of his grandmother’s engagement ring. In July, Naomi Biden revealed the location of the wedding ceremony on Twitter, writing that she was “not sure how best to update.”
She said she and Mr. Neal had “finally worked out where the ceremony will be … and much to the relief of the Secret Service and with the approval of the dogs … we are getting married on the South Lawn! Couldn’t be more thrilled”.
From News weekthe White House has stated that the Biden family will foot the bill for all expenses related to the wedding.
