Some legislators from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party will form a group to accelerate the Japanese government’s efforts to expand defence-related exports, a source close to the matter said, despite reluctance from her coalition partner.
Launching as early as this month, the group will advocate for a review of the “Three Principles,” the country’s strict guidelines for the overseas transfer of defense equipment and technology under its post-war pacifist constitution, the source said.
The move comes after the government last month revised its key defense documents, including the National Security Strategy, a long-term policy guideline.
