Leeds United may have to push back more interest in Raphinha this summer, as Manchester City have now joined the race to sign him.
Raphinha has enjoyed a productive first season in the Premier League since arriving at Leeds. He has scored six goals and provided the same number of assists in 26 appearances for the England top flight. Its impact has alerted a number of other clubs in the division.
The € 20million fee Leeds spent on Raphinha appears to have been a bargain. His value has surely increased since then and other clubs could try to reward him.
A report published in February claimed that Liverpool were “blown away” by the former Rennes. As they look to replenish their attack this summer, he could be a potential target.
Manchester United have also been linked as they continue their search for a right winger. Raphinha’s relationship with Bruno Fernandes their time together at Sporting CP could help.
But now another rival has emerged for the Brazilian’s signing. According to Sport Italy, Manchester City are also admirers of Raphinha.
City are on their way to claim the Premier League title this season, which would add to the EFL Cup they’ve already lifted. They also remain in contention for the Champions League, having secured the advantage in the semi-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain.
However, they are still looking to strengthen their squad and Raphinha could add quality to their offense.
The 24-year-old has proven his skills this season and it may come as no surprise that some of the Premier League’s top teams are watching him now.
Whether City would be able to immediately offer him a regular role in the first team is open. But he’s someone who could bolster most squads.
The report recalls that Liverpool and Man Utd also remain on the lookout for signing Raphinha. Leeds has him under contract until 2024 but will be bracing for offers.
City star in shock
News of City’s interest in another winger coincides with reports that Raheem Sterling faces an uncertain future.
According to Don BalonSterling fell out with Pep Guardiola after being overlooked for City’s Champions League game against PSG.
In fact, their supposed flaw is said to go back further than that with the England winger not being happy. Now he’s considering a change of scenery.
Real Madrid have reportedly rekindled their interest in the former Liverpool striker.
