Ian Rush believes Mohamed Salah has taken his game to the next level this season and says the ‘Egyptian king’ ‘would love to stay at Liverpool’.
Salah has scored nine goals in all competitions this season as he looks to add a third Premier League Golden Boot to his collection. The 29-year-old also looks set to become the club’s top scorer again for the fifth time in five seasons so far.
Salah scored 134 goals for Liverpool, but remains far behind the legendary Rush, who scored 346 goals for the Reds in the 1980s and 1990s.
Yet despite his status as a deity at Anfield, his future remains uncertain. HThat contract is set to expire in 2023 and if the Reds can’t tie it to longer terms, they stand to risk losing it for a reduced price – or nothing at all.
Jurgen Klopp would of course like to keep the man they signed in Rome for £ 36.9million. Liverpool owners FSG have been reluctant to break their pay structure, however, and this is what they should do to extend Salah’s contract.
The independent say Salah is looking for a salary between £ 300,000 and £ 380,000 to sign a new deal. While the Daily Mirror Claim the prolific striker demands an exorbitant salary of £ 500,000 a week from Anfield officials.
The potential new deal Salah is seeking is said to be more than double his current salary of £ 200,000 per week. Robbie Fowler recently claimed that the whole team will be behind a new deal for their talisman.
While Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas recently reminded Liverpool owners of his client’s position in the game.
“Hope they watch,” he wrote, when the former Chelsea man opened his account for the season against Norwich City in August.
And Rush, 59, validated Salah’s demands for a new mega deal.

“Salah is the best player in the world”
“I’ve said it before, right now, in his current form, Mo Salah is the best player in the world!” he said to Echo of Liverpool.
“Cristiano Ronaldo went to Manchester United and yes he’s doing well.
“Lionel Messi went to Paris Saint-Germain and it took a little while to settle in but Salah took him to a different level.
“I spoke to Mo last season and he told me he wanted to be the best in the world.
“He improved his game this year. It’s not just about scoring goals and people will say he’s selfish and whatever, but he’s also provided assists this season.
“Look at the one he did for Sadio Mane against Manchester City. They play as a team and Mo knows what it takes.
“Of course he scored some great goals and he was the fastest at 100 goals, that’s great. Fantastic. But he also plays for the team.
“He’s coming back now, defending more and he said to himself that if he wanted to be the best player in the world, he had to improve his game and he certainly did.
“He told me his goal was to be the best player in the world. And in his current form, he’s the best player in the world. He’s doing it right now.
“I talk to Mo a lot and oddly enough, I met Mo at the Leeds game (in September) and I was chatting with him and he said to me: ‘How the hell did you score 300 goals! ?
“So I had to remind him, in fact, it was 346!”
“So we laugh and joke about it, but he knows what it takes. Listen, records are here to be broken.
“And if you want to break records like this you have to stay injury free and that’s the problem with Salah, he gets hurt very rarely.
“If you hurt yourself, it doesn’t help. But I set him a goal, he’s there, so let’s see if he can break it!
Discussions have been underway since the summer with Klopp confirming he was involved in the negotiations in August. However, very little has been said since without any progress in the negotiations.
Rush, however, identified the facts.
New Salah contract
“I think you have to think of everything,” he said. “At the end of the day, every club in the world would want Mo Salah.
“I know he would like to stay at Liverpool. There are no fans who will love Mo Salah more than Liverpool fans, there is no doubt about it.
“It’s a difficult situation. I know Jurgen Klopp loves it and stuff, so you just have to wait and see. But if you’re Mo Salah, you keep scoring goals.
“I know how the structure works with Liverpool. So I hope everything is in agreement and both parties are happy.
“People talk about legends in the game, Mo Salah is already one of them. He was the fastest at 100 goals.
“But I want Mo Salah to be remembered for someone like me, Steven Gerrard, Kenny Dalglish. Someone who’s been at the club for a long time.
“We all love what Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez did, but they had only been around for a few years. To be a true legend, however, you have to be at the club for eight or nine years.
“I hope we will see Mo Salah do the same,” added Rush, who was speaking as the new ambassador of Gambling.com.
