Veteran Shiva Thapa and the bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, Lovlina Borgohain, will lead the Indian men’s and women’s competition respectively at the Asian boxing championship next month. The selection trials for the continental showpiece, scheduled to run from October 30 to November 12 in Amman, Jordan, were held at NIS Patiala from Thursday to Saturday. People like reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen, three-time Asian Championship medalist Amit Panghal and Birmingham Commonwealth Games medalists Rohit Tokas and Sagar Ahlawat skipped the trials.

While Zareen has missed the tournament to get some much-needed rest, Panghal, Tokas and Ahlawat have been nursed with injuries, a source from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) told PTI.
