Malakai Black delivered an emotional speech after a match at the Prestige Wrestling’s Perseverance event on Saturday night in Pomona, CA.
As previously reported, AEW talent believes Black has been fired from his AEW contract, although AEW has not officially announced his departure. Raj Giri first reported that Black had asked for his release, but was then refused.
His last AEW match was at All Out when House of Black lost to Sting, Miro and Darby Allin. After the match, Black bowed and blew a kiss to the fans, leading to speculation that it was Black saying goodbye to AEW and its fans.
Earlier this month, Black was pulled from a Northeast Wrestling event “due to health concerns.”

Black noted in his speech that he wants to recalibrate himself at this point:
“Look, really, I understand you all have questions… what I’m doing, where I’m going. Look, seriously, I’ll answer most of these questions in due course. The last 22 years of my life however, I never took a step back and recalibrated my life. I took the opportunity to look back on the things I’ve done in the ring, but also the things outside the ring. I never did because I always have this attitude like, you know, when they give the horses with the flaps on the side of their heads so they can’t look sideways I’ve done that all my professional career because I had that one attitude towards wrestling namely that you had to think globally, not locally, because if you think locally, you get stuck in one place. That goes for everything, by the way.If you want to expand, you don’t have to worry about the little things… You have all been fantastic Please give me a few weeks, maybe a few months, to recalibrate myself. I promise you. This is not goodbye. This is just that we’ll see each other soon.”
