Man claiming to be Detroit school security officer charged with seeking money


(UKTN DETROIT) – A man who claimed to be a Detroit Public Schools Community District security officer has been charged with soliciting money from multiple companies.

Michael McCombs is charged with attempted charitable action, one count of false pretenses for less than $200, three counts of impersonating a peace officer, two counts of attempted charitable action, and two counts of attempted false pretenses for less than $200.

Prosecutors say McCombs allegedly impersonated a DPSCD security officer between December 28, 2022 and January 7, 2023 to raise charity money.

He was arrested on January 7 and arraigned on Friday.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for January 20 and a preliminary investigation is scheduled for January 27.
