Much of the Gunners’ summer transfer plans could be based on securing the financial wealth that elite European competition offers.
Mikel Arteta’s team was strongly linked to a permanent contract for the impressive Martin Odegaard. However, major acquisitions beyond this may require exits first.
An actor who could generate significant funds is Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The 23-year-old is currently plying his trade with West Brom on loan, although the Baggies look unlikely to beat the downside.
Rather than returning to Arsenal and getting lost in the shuffle, the Telegraph report ‘this summer is accepted as the natural breaking point. The player himself suggested as such with a “ rotting ” jibe in March.
Able to play in midfield or at the back, Maitland-Niles will be an attractive prospect due to his versatility.
The academy graduate has two more years on his current contract, but the report says there are no plans for an extension.
Wolves, Leicester and Southampton are all credited with interest, but the catchier name is Male Utd.
Maitland-Niles would prefer to play in midfield, but he has apparently realized that most ‘Premier League clubs see him as a right-back’.
The Red Devils are described as “looking to get stronger” behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer.
Wolves were previously linked to a £ 20million moves late into summer window. Fees in that region are expected to be needed to end his time at Arsenal.
A disgruntled Arsenal man weighing the reunion?
Meanwhile, Reiss Nelson is sparking interest from Olympiacos amid doubts about his future at Arsenal, according to a report.
Nelson is an Arsenal academy graduate who made his senior debut for the club in 2017. Since then he has struggled to break through on a regular basis. He spent the 2018-19 season on loan and has struggled to find opportunities at Emirates Stadium since.
Now Nelson is considering his future again. According to Football.London, one option would be to make a loan to Greece.
Olympiacos are showing an interest in the youngster, it is claimed. Nelson did not play against them when the two teams recently met in the Europa League, but they have apparently been watching him since last summer.
Having already taken Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Arsenal’s hands, they could now come back with an offer for another of their fringe players. But they only want to borrow Nelson, rather than permanently.
