The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Compton Avenue.

A man in his sixties was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital. His condition is unknown, but he is expected to survive.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Lieutenant Derrick Alfred said officers were called to the area after a woman called 911 to report that a man in a raincoat had pointed a gun at her. The officers who responded saw a man on the corner of Imperial and Compton who matched the description as they made their way to speak to the victim.

Authorities say the man pulled out a black pistol, “and that there was a shooting that involved the emergency services.”

A replica semi-automatic pistol or BB pistol was recovered at the scene, Alfred said.

The woman was not injured and is working with the detectives.
