Police have started evacuating a number of homes in Manchester following a bomb threat.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and an Army clearance team are at the scene on Chester Road, Old Trafford, following the suspicious behavior of a man in his 20s.
In a statement shared on Twitter, GMP said: “A number of homes have been evacuated at Old Trafford as a precaution as part of an ongoing incident.
“We were called at 11:55 pm yesterday (April 28) for a report of concern for the welfare of a threatening man on Chester Road, Old Trafford.
“A man in his twenties was arrested for breach of public order and taken into police custody. Officers subsequently searched an address on Chester Road and have since discovered suspicious items, and EOD is due to attend the scene to do an assessment.
“As a precaution, a large number of surrounding apartments were evacuated
“Investigations are ongoing and police are working with firefighters to ensure there is no risk to the public.”
