A well-known sportsman accused of methamphetamine can be named as former rugby league player Manu Vatuvei.
He revealed himself on Instagram, two days before his name deletion lapsed.
Vatuvei told his subscribers he wanted them to hear directly from him that he was charged with possession and importing the drugs in 2019.
He denies the charges and is due to be tried by a jury in October, alongside three other people.
“I will fight against my innocence on these charges,” he said.
“I know there will be a lot of questions that will be asked for answers, but my legal team has advised me, that’s all I can talk about. So I hope you all can respect that, and can too. respect my family’s privacy as I go through this battle. “
Vatuvei has been denied name removal by district and high court courts, although his lawyer Greg Bradford has suggested he would face extreme hardship and his fair trial rights would suffer.
He had until Tuesday to make a new offer to the Court of Appeal.
Between 2004 and 2017, Vatuvei played 14 seasons for the Warriors and scored 152 tries in 226 games.
He was nicknamed “the Beast” and became the first player in NRL history to complete the feat of scoring 10 or more tries in 10 consecutive seasons in 2015.
In 2019 he was successful in Dancing with the Stars, winning the series with his dance partner Loryn Reynolds.
