The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will look to extend their current 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) winning streak when they face defending Indian champions Mumbai in Delhi on Saturday. With Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad shooting at the top of the order and Ravindra Jadeja contributing both with the bat and the ball, the CSK led by MS Dhoni appeared apart in this year’s IPL. CSK finished seventh last year, failing to advance to the playoffs for the first time in their history. But they have been the team to beat this season. CSK lost their first game against the Delhi capitals but turned things around by winning the next five games and are currently at the top of the points table.
Here are some of the main players in CSK
Faf du Plessis
The former South African captain was in good shape with the bat and has scored three consecutive half centuries in the ongoing T20 tournament.
Du Plessis is third in the race for Orange Cap and will look to continue his purple spot with the bat when CSK takes on the Mumbai Indians.
The uncapped young Indian batsman has had a dream run in recent matches after battling for points initially in the 2021 IPL. Gaikwad scored a searing 75 against SunRisers Hyderabad to help his team comfortably pursue the 172 target. points.
Gaikwad will aim to provide another strong start with Faf du Plessis and set up a platform for heavy hitters like Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni to do the damage in the latter part of their innings.
Jadeja missed international cricket for two months due to an injury he sustained while playing in Australia. The left-handed all-rounder returned to competitive cricket in the current IPL and was one of the top IPL players of this year.
Jadeja recently crashed 36 races off Harshal Patel, then picked up three wickets in the same game against RCB. CSK are hoping to see a similar performance from their all-rounder as they take on the five-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians.
