The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Bollywood actor Ajaz Khan in a suspected drug case on Wednesday morning, officials said.
Shortly after arriving from Jaipur and landing at Mumbai Airport on Tuesday, he was arrested for questioning by the NCB Zonal Unit in Mumbai and placed under arrest early the next day. NCB officials also took Ajaz for a medical check-up on Wednesday before bringing him to a court in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Ajaz told reporters: “No medicine was found anywhere. Only four sleeping pills were found in my house. My wife has miscarried and uses these pills as an antidepressant.”
According to NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede, the actor’s name emerged during questioning of notorious drug dealer Shadab Shaikh aka Batata, who was arrested last Thursday in the western suburbs.
After his detention, Ajaz was grilled for several hours in the NCB offices and then placed under arrest for his alleged role in the crime and his links to the drug mafia. Shortly before being taken to the NCB office, Ajaz – who worked in several films and appeared on reality shows like ‘Bigg Boss’ – claimed he was not detained and had come voluntarily meet the officers.
A team also attacked locations in Andheri West in connection with the case, the NCB officer added.
To date, NCB has arrested nearly 36 drug traffickers as it unveils the Bollywood drug angle following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances on June 14 2020.
