Morris Garages India had officially unveiled the new MG Astor compact SUV in India. Scheduled to be launched during this festive season, the new Astor is the ICE petrol or internal combustion engine version of the MG ZS EV, which is already on sale in India. The company had already revealed a bit of the tech-driven features that will be offered with the Astor. However, we finally know more about the SUV’s engine specs and all the tech on offer.

Engine and transmission
As MG had previously confirmed, the new Astor will be a gasoline-only SUV, and the automaker will offer two gasoline engines. The first, which is expected to be offered with the lower variants of the car, will be a new 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine designed to produce 108 hp and 144 Nm of maximum torque. This engine will be mated to a manual gearbox and an 8-speed CVT or continuously variable transmission.

The MG Astor will thus benefit from a more powerful turbo petrol engine, which will probably be offered with the more efficient models. The engine is a 1.3-liter turbocharged unit which is tuned to generate 138 hp and peak torque of 220 Nm. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed automatic torque converter as standard.
Technology on offer
The SUV uses the company’s New Concept of Car as a Platform (CAAP), whereby MG plans to offer a range of technology-driven services to its customer using the Astor as a platform. form. MG Astor hosts subscriptions and services, including maps and navigation with MapMyIndia, Jio connectivity, KoineArth’s first Blockchain-protected digital vehicle passport and more. The Astor also offers access to music with the JioSaavn app, as well as the industry’s first feature of reserving a parking space through a main unit (powered by Park +, some cities selected to start) and access to unlimited information with Wikipedia. Astor also has over 80 internet features, all controlled through the 10.1 inch HD infotainment system.
The new MG Astor will be the first SUV in this segment to feature a personal assistant based on artificial intelligence or AI. The system responds to the “Hello Astor” wake-up command. In fact, Paralympic athlete and Khel Ratna Award winner, Dr. Deepa Malik, will lend her voice to the system. The assistant has its own display unit that can do a bunch of facial expressions, and it understands natural language and supports up to 35 Hinglish voice commands.
Driver assistance and safety functions
The MG Astor also comes with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) as well as Level 2 Autonomous Technology. MG has partnered with BOSCH for ADAS, and it comes with AI technology, six radars and five cameras, allowing the SUV to manage 14 advanced autonomous level 2 functionalities. This includes functionalities such as – lane keeping assistance, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic emergency braking – pedestrian, speed assistance system – speed warning, vehicle assistance system speed – manual mode, speed Assistance system – Intelligent mode, rear cross traffic alert, lane change assistance, blind spot detection and intelligent headlight control.
The Astor also comes with 27 standard safety features including ESP, TCS, and HDC. Other safety features include – 6 airbags, electric parking brake, heated ORVM, rain sensing wiper, PM 2.5 filter, 360 degree camera, etc.
