New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley appears to be on track to start another season with the team that drafted him, but that hasn’t stopped anyone from coming up with wildly imaginative trade scenarios to stir the pot. in business conversations. Barkley was thrown into a business proposal that probably has no realistic basis, but there are still people talking.
Bleacher Report contributor Ian Wharton played the part of the fantastic general manager by offering a trade that every NFL team should offer before training camps begin. Included in that list was a proposal for the Kansas City Chiefs to offer Clyde Edwards-Helaire and a 2023 draft pick in exchange for the former running back from Penn State. The reason for the trade from Kansas City’s perspective would be to give the Chiefs a solid solution at running back, which is one the AFC franchise has been working to improve this offseason to relieve some of the pressure on franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The mere thought of an offense with Mahomes and Barkley is incredibly alluring, and something that may only be possible in Madden NFL video games, but it’s an interesting thought experiment. And with the Giants looking to improve the roster for future stability and Barkley having an injury history as he enters his fifth year in the league, it looks like a move the Giants would be wise to entertain at least for a while.
From Wharton;
The New York Giants have a bad but expensive roster. New head coach Brian Daboll would surely love to deploy a healthy Saquon Barkley in 2022, but the franchise has seen limited production and availability from the 2018 No. 2 pick. Trading his $7.2 million cap and taking a fresh look at Edwards-Helaire is the safest move.
Barkley in Kansas City? It would be interesting to see how head coach Andy Reid makes it work. But until Barkley is actually traded by the Giants for real, perhaps this one is best left to your imagination.
