Nyambaria High: Profile of the SDA school that posted 383 A-, Zero B- & Below


Nyambaria High School posted impressive results in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE), dethroning academic giants in the country.

The boys’ high school in Nyamira County stunned its peers in South Nyanza by sending all 488 applicants to college.

Nyambaria High School posted an average score of 10.8975, one of the best in the country, according to the results released by the Secretary of the Cabinet of Education, Ezekiel Machogu, on Friday, January 20 at the Mitihani House in Nairobi.

All candidates scored B and above. The analysis of the results showed that only one candidate scored B, while 76 candidates had B+, 383 A- and 28 candidates A, compared to four in 2021.

The results gave all candidates direct access to university to pursue various government-sponsored degree programs.

In 2021, the school scored an average of 9.3

“Our class of 2022 was well disciplined, which is why we achieved impressive results. I want to thank our teachers and staff, because they were there when he needed them,” said Edgar Isaboke, one of the top students.

Charles Onyari, principal of Nyambaria High School, attributed the positive performance to stakeholders and support from the local community. Onyari added that exchange programs helped the institution perform well in the KCSE exams.

Speak against UKTN.co.keMaranga Mgoya, one of the alumni, stated that the school culture contributed to the impressive KCSE results.

“The school culture is anchored in discipline. Students are trained to strive for religion, education and even economics,” said Maranga.

Preliminary reports indicated that Cardinal Otunga High School followed Nyambaria High School with an average score of 10.76, Asumbi High School – 10.37, Mang’u High School with 10.36, St Anthony High School – with 10.33 and Mudasia Academy-10.3.

Kapsabet High School, which came out top nationally in the 2021 KCSE exams, had an average score of 10.1, while Alliance High School had 10.2. Kenya High School achieved an average score of 9.95.

It is a Seventh-day Adventist school that was founded in 1966. It had only a few students and learning facilities when it was founded.

But over time, Nyambaria School increased its population to about 2000 students. It also joined part of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist education system.

The school has 21 classrooms, a scientific complex laboratory, a computer lab, a library, a woodworking shop and 14 dormitories.

The performance of Nyambaria High School was impressive. Unlike in 2007, when the school was ranked No. 59 nationally and No. 5 in Nyanza Province, the 2009 group achieved rank 27 in Nyanza Province.

In addition to their impressive academic record, the school participates in various co-curricular activities including drama, rugby, music, science conference and indoor games.

The students are also involved in competitions, symposia, discussions and field trips, contributing to positive representation in co-curricular activities.

Some of the school’s alumni include Dr. Atunga Nyachieo, a researcher and lecturer at the University of Nairobi and Maranga Mgoya, a journalist in Nyamira.

“We are proud of the school that has shaped some of the great leaders and innovators in the country,” said Beavon Magare, a Kisii County government official.
