Olympic Games Opening Ceremony Director Sacked for Past Holocaust Joke | Radio-Canada News

The Tokyo Olympics organizing committee on Thursday fired the director of the opening ceremony over a Holocaust joke he made during a comedy show in 1998.

The chairman of the organizing committee, Seiko Hashimoto, said the director of the opening ceremony, Kentaro Kobayashi, had been sacked. He has been accused of using a Holocaust joke in his comedy act, including the phrase “Let’s play Holocaust”, in one of his shows.

His dismissal comes the day before the opening ceremony on Friday of the Games delayed by the pandemic.

Earlier this week, a composer whose music is expected to be used at the opening ceremony was forced to resign due to past bullying from his classmates, which he bragged about in magazine interviews.
