One of Prince Harry’s former bodyguards has said he heard remarks during his childhood that heralded the Duke’s exit from the Royal Family alongside Meghan Markle.
Almost exactly two years ago, Harry and Meghan announced that they would step back from their roles as senior royals.
After meeting the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William at Sandringham, the Duke of Sussex traveled to the United States with his new wife.
Before that, Harry and his older brother William seem to have been very aware of their different futures, reports The Mirror.
William is a direct heir to the throne and will one day be king, while it’s likely that in time Harry will slip down the line of succession.
And at the tender age of four, Harry is said to have made a shocking outburst at his older brother who was eerily predicting his future in The Firm.
It happened while the couple were traveling from London to Gloucester for a weekend, when they started bickering like any normal sibling.
The incident was heard by Ken Wharfe, a longtime protection officer with the Royal Family, who was appalled by what he heard.
“Diana always took the two boys to Highgrove in Gloucestershire. On that particular occasion Diana was driving, I was sitting in the front, William and Harry in the back,” Ken explained in the Channel 5 documentary Prince Harry : The Troubled Prince.
“They were clearly off to a bad start because they were arguing before we even left.”
The young princes’ nanny was to be the referee as the boys argued in the back seats of the car.
Ken added: “Harry said out of nowhere, ‘William, one day you’ll be king, I won’t, it doesn’t matter so I can do what I like’.”
Their mother, Princess Diana, was reportedly stunned by the remark and asked where Harry got her from.
Now, over 30 years later, the seemingly improvised commentary seems to have almost come true.
William, along with his wife the Duchess of Cambridge, is set to be a future Prince of Wales and possibly King – as the 95-year-old Queen takes on fewer duties.
While Harry and his wife Meghan now live in California after signing major deals with Netflix and Spotify.
